Voyage of Discovery

Beginning a journey

Every child's life is a voyage of discovery for both child and parent. Even before birth, your child is beginning to form the first significant relationship with mum and is being prepared for a first transition: from a sensory, pre-verbal world (womb) to family life; the social context in which he/she will grow and learn.

Similar transitions will be repeated throughout life:

  • learning through discovery and new experiences
  • forming vital new relationships with others at every stage of the journey

By supporting your child to find natural, powerful ways of engaging with discovery and human relationships, we give them a gift for life.

Starting nursery

This pivotal moment and transition is handled with great care. We begin with a Home Visit to make the initial contact with your child in familiar, safe surroundings. From their first day at nursery, we provide your child with a personal carer who will be their principal guide and mentor. That person is then part of the vital carer-child-parent relationship triangle that shapes your child's learning (parent-child-carer-parent).

A learning journey

Success springs from the encouragement and fostering of a child's instinctive curiosity and appetite for learning within a safe learning environment. We take the Government's prescribed Early Years Curriculum (six areas of learning) as no more than a starting point for our travels. Since 2005, we have pioneered the use of a fully integrated curriculum in which the different curriculum 'subjects' can all be learned at the same time from each of a wide range of activities.

We recognise the changing needs of your child, as he/she progresses from the sensory and physical experiences of infant life to the increasing confidence that comes from movement, dance, vocal play and the development of sound-language and 'mark making'-creativity. Equally, we hold healthy eating as a key to wellbeing and development, particularly in establishing good lifetime eating habits.
