Nursery transitions

Opinions may differ as to exactly when before birth human life begins but what cannot be denied is that life begins in a mother-child relationship and could not begin without it.

Our aim at Foundations for Learning is to ensure that starting nursery is a relationship-building process, adding a new dimension to your child's social life - as well as dramatically increasing your own personal freedom.

The relationship triangle between parent, child and personal carer is key.

  • You want to see a happy and contented relationship between your child and their personal carer
  • Your child will want to see a happy and contented relationship between their personal carer and you

The effectiveness of this triangle will be the concern of both the Nursery Manager and your personal carer's Head of Room

Here are some of the things we do to build and enhance these two critical relationships:

  • Your nursery visit will start and finish with meetings with the Manager; your tour of the nursery will be conducted by your child's assigned Personal Carer or by her Head of Room
  • Before your child starts nursery, we like the Nursery Manager and the Personal Carer to visit you and your child at home. While you brief the Nursery Manager, your child can get to know their Personal Carer, show them where they sleep and show them their favourite toys
  • You will be shown weekly activity plans and menus and you will receive daily reports when you collect your child from nursery

Every six months, you will have a formal meeting with your Personal Carer and the Nursery Manager to review your child's progress and agree their Individual Learning Plan for the next six months.
